Uta Noppeney

Uta Noppeney is Professor of Systems Neuroscience in the Biophysics department of Radboud University and Principal Investigator at the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. Her work focuses on understanding how humans perceive, interpret, and interact with a complex multisensory environment.
She studied medicine and philosophy at the University of Freiburg, University College London, and Johns Hopkins University, earning her medical degree and doctorate in Freiburg and a PhD in neuroscience from University College London. Following clinical training in neurology in Aachen, she conducted research at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging in London. She later became a research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, and was subsequently appointed Professor of Computational Neuroscience and Director of the Computational Neuroscience and Cognitive Robotics Centre at the University of Birmingham.
Her research investigates the computational and neural mechanisms that enable perception, learning, and decision-making in a multisensory world. Combining behavioural experiments, computational modelling, including Bayesian and neural network approaches, and neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI, MEG, and EEG, her work aims to uncover how the brain performs perceptual inference and integrates uncertain sensory signals to guide adaptive behaviour.
