Volker Busskamp
Clinical neuroscience session | The title of the talk is not defined yet.
Volker Busskamp is Professor for Degenerative Retinal Diseases at the University of Bonn’s Department of Ophthalmology and has, since forming his lab, established himself as a reference in retinal circuits in health and disease.
His research explores neural circuit function, focusing on the retina and its diseases, such as Macular Degeneration. To that end, as well as working on the underlying causes of retinal diseases with techniques such as iPSC modelling and retinal organoid development, Busskamp is currently seeking multiple therapeutic avenues for treating these diseases, including optogenetics and microRNA therapies. By bridging the gap between cause and treatment, Volker Busskamp’s work shows promising potential for tackling some of these diseases.
Busskamp’s work has been recognised from early on for the potential it has, having garnered multiple young investigator awards (TUD Young Investigator, Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Junior Award, Young Investigator Award from the ESGCT).
